Bobtail
After 5 days in a bigger aquarium, my Cichlasoma festae spawned today. :)
Untill five days ago, the were in a smaller species aquarium, where i had a divider between them, or else the male would have killed the female... It is now clear, that they are much better suited in a bigger aquarium, where the male kan chase the Geophagus.
This is their first spawn, and they seem rather calm. - will see if the temperament changes, if the eggs make it untill freeswimming.

Congrats!! :) Thats looking good, I hope that some of the fry will survive. Btw I am starting to wonder if the tank mates really are Geophagus brasiliensis ? I got to say that they also look damn nice :)

#4 - I dont know if they are G. brasiliensis or perhaps G. iporangensis? - I just have them, as a buffer-fish. This aquarium is all about my C. festae, and keeping them in the best way. :)
By the way - the eggs survived the first night. :D

How is it goin'? :P

Sadly after 2 days, the eggs was gone. :( - I guess it is normal for a young couple, not to succeed the first times they spawn. I hope for better luck next time...

Absolutely! They are learning and will become good parents eventually.

Good look with their next try! I agree with Kajjan, they will learn and succeed eventually.

After 3 attempts my festae pair finally had some luck with their breeding. Although i only have about 25 fry, this must count as a succes and hopefully next time they breed, i will get many more. :)

Hur går det med ynglen Bobtail? Lite nyfiken på hur de ser ut nu en månad senare.

#17. I have about 10 left. They are still very small, and i am surprised by the slow grow-rate they show. The fry i have from my victorian cichlids grow 5 times faster it seems. Positive it is, that i have had no deaths the last weeks, so hopefully these last 10 will survive.
By the way - the parents are looking ready to spawn again anytime soon. :)

Thanks for the response Bobtail, and that's interesting, read somewhere that the growth was quick from start but got a bit slower after 5 cm or something, but there are always variations I guess. I sure hope the 10 youngsters survives to become adults :) ;)

Here they are, breeding again.:) Note how the male changes color from normal, back into breeding-dress when he comes near the fry in the middle of the video 1.41 - 1.54... Looks cool.
Merry christmas Sweden.
